In the content of Nord Stream Project of Gazprom 6,500 m bored piles constructed. The city of Vyborg was built on a volcanic structure, which makes the project important. Massive granite and granodiorite type rocks were observed throughout the region. In order to prevent damaging of machinery and equipment due to hard rock conditions, alternative drilling methods were used instead of traditional methods. With suitable equipment the target drill rate was reached and the project was completed successfully.
