Moscow City, or the Moscow International Business Center by its full name, is situated four kilometers west of the Kremlin on Krasnopresnenskaya (an embankment of the Moscow River), and is one of the largest and most ambitious construction projects. The project area consists a total of 20 plots and covers an area of about 100 hectares.

The goal of the project is to create a new commercial center for the capital including some 2.5 million m2 of office, shopping and residential space, hotels, parking for 30,000 cars, a huge public square, sports and leisure facilities, an aqua-park and the new 230,000 m2 City Hall. The centerpiece of Moscow City is the 85-floor Federation Tower, Europe’s tallest building (to date) at a 354 m height.

Moscow International Business Center, Russia

The project has two phases. The first phase was the construction of a 59-storey, 239 m high skyscraper with a total construction area of 218,000 m2. The second phase consists of building an Aquapark with recreation, fitness and medical centers. A total of 8,500 m of 1,200 mm diameter bored piles were installed under the Aquapark building in 2007.

This project covers a 1.27 hectare area and consists of the 73-storey Moscow Tower and the 64-storey St. Petersburg Tower and General Service Buildings. Underneath these structures, 1,200 mm diameter bored piles totaling 9,500 m were installed in 2005. The foundation piles were designed as end-bearing and socketed into the hard limestone layer.

The Naberezhnaya Tower Project, an investment project developed entirely by Enka, is located on 1,574 hectares of land in MIBC Moscow City, at the intersection of the Third Transport Ring and Krasnopresnenskaya Embankment, a region of the city that is rapidly emerging as Russia’s new business capital. The project comprised two-phases, consisting of two buildings, 17 and 27 stories respectively, designated as A and B in Phase 1. The Tower, also referred to as Building C, is a 260 m and 60-story skyscraper developed as Phase 2. An anchored shoring system for the excavation of the deep foundation pit and 8,500 m of 900 to 1,200 mm diameter bored piles were installed. During the works, two pile load tests employing the osterberg-cell (o-cell) method were conducted with a maximum test load of 50,000 kN.

The Terminal is the main city center transport terminal for the high-speed rail links to Sheremetyevo and Wnukovo airports, as well as a vital link with metro stations, public buses and tram services. The complex covers a gross area of 250,000 m2 and consists of office premises, a 4-star Hotel, retail and entertainment areas, and an underground carpark. The project consists of 6,400 m, 1,200 mm diameter bored installation.

This project consists of the construction of a 300 m tall skyscraper, the third tallest building in Moscow, for Zao Techinvest. An anchored diaphragm wall was used for excavation of the deep foundation pit. The 11,600 m2 diaphragm wall was executed by a trench cutter system and 10,200 m of ground anchorages were installed. The second phase of the project consists of a five-star hotel, recreation areas, a medical center, a night club, and a car park. A total of 4,600 m of 1,200-1,500 mm diameter bored piles were installed under the structures during the second phase of the project in 2006.

The Project performed by Mirax-City is composed of multi­functional A and B towers. A total of 3,600 m of 1,500 mm diameter bored pile installation was performed under Tower A, which will be (up to date) Europe’s tallest tower with 85 floors and a 354 m height at completion. Beneath Tower B some 2,400 m of 1,500 mm diameter bored pile installation was performed, with works completed in 2005. According to the project’s quality control program, two pile load tests employing osterberg­cell (o-cell) method were conducted with a maximum test load of 62,000 kN.
