117,500 m of deep soil mixing (DSM) work has been completed under PE3, PE4, PE5 and SPE (Side Span Pier) viaduct foundations. Unconfined compressive strength test has been applied on wet grab samples and full depth continuous core samples collected from DSM columns. All samples have been successfully tested.
The area located between PE5 viaduct foundation, SPE (Side Span Pier) foundation and the Dardanelles has been strengthened with diaphragm walls; whose maximum depth is 67 m. The diaphragm wall verticality (1/200) has been checked with Koden test. A total of 30,000 m3 of diaphragm wall has been completed in accordance with the work schedule.
1,500 mm diameter bored pile installations have been completed under AE (Abutment), PE3, PE4, PE5 viaduct foundations and SPE (Side Span Pier) foundation. 72 m long special bored piles, which are one of the longest bored piles executed in Turkey; have been installed under SPE (Side Span Pier) areas. All bored piles have been tested with CSL (Cross-hole sonic integrity test); which has verified the concrete quality and integrity. 6,650 m of bored pile has been completed in 4 months. Due to the quality control program of the project, bi-directional axial preliminary loading tests have been applied on 2 test piles. According to the results, test piles were loaded up to a maximum 4,200 tons; which are twice the target design criteria.
Within the scope of the project, secant piles and dewatering works have also been completed in various areas. Additionally, two pier structures consisting of sheetpiled walls were constructed on both European and Asian sides. These piers provide all the transportation of two continents and off-shore bridge tower abutments
